Photodump incoming :D

A lot of progress completed on the helmet. Inside was coated with smooth cast 300 for added strength. I started using apoxie sculpt and bondo on the outside to start smoothing the helmet. Apoxie sculpt is being used in the higher stress areas like the face and shoulders while bondo is being used in the other areas as it is faster to apply and sand. I have started a thread over on the Sovereign Protectors and they have given the helmet the go ahead as far as its shape! Now continues the long process of smoothing out the helmet.

Great build thread! We should have you consolidate this when you complete it and put it into a "tutorials" section. Looking forward to seeing more progress!

I could create a consolidated thread when I'm finished, and you don't have to wait long for the next update.

So yesterday I sanded the first layer of bondo on the back and added the second layer to fill low spots and the holes. I added apoxie sculpt to the "rim" of the helmet as that was one of the hardest areas pepakura wise so there were some areas that would have taken a lot more time to fill with bondo. I also needed to raise the rim slightly as it tapered to a point at the bottom which is much easier to do with the resin clay than bondo. Now it comes down to adding bondo to the dome, sanding, filling holes, sanding some more etc.

This project is the one that finally convinced me to buy a mouse sander, it goes oh so much faster! But even then it is going to take a while

Not much to say other than the whole helmet has been sanded down. Now its back to adding bondo to fill the low areas and sand again. I also will finish adding bondo to the dome as it had been to cold to finish that.

You've got a labor of love going on there! By the time you are done, I'll have some body work on my car for you to do. ;)

Wow man, that's going well. Lots of work. I'm curious how heavy it's getting. Keep up the great work.

Thanks guys! It is getting some heft to it for sure. Luckily I finally got my hands on a don post so I will be able to switch between this and the lighter helmet. I fixed some warping on the don post and coated the inside with smoothcast 300 which makes a world of difference in the structural integrity of the helmet. I filled the lettering and will sand that smooth tonight. Once all of this snow and rain clears up I will start painting the helmet. After seeing the Rogue One trailer with the TR's at 1:18 this may switch from an ROTS to RO build as it looks like the two share the same style of robes.

The Don Post with primer after being sanded with 80, 180, and 320.

I will wet sand the primer with 600 after it fully cures and then apply a gloss red paint. I know I am going with Krylon but I don't know which specific color red I will end up using yet.

The visor should arrive on Wednesday. I will be modifying a visor from T-Visor.com to fit this helmet. This is the same company that made the visor in my mando helmet and I have been extremely happy with it and they are dark enough that you can't see through from the outside even with a camera flash
