Hello everyone!

My name is James O'Carra and I've been around Star Wars longer than I can even remember. I always wanted to try o join the 501st, but jut kept putting it off. Well, my three year old son just developed an obsession with Vader, so I figured it was time to try.

I'm really interested in doing a Shadow Trooper, buy would like to know the cost and time it would take. I found this costume on Ebayhttp://m.ebay.com/itm/121316068026?nav=WATCHING_ACTIVE
And was wondering if anybody was familiar with this and what I would be getting into. Through a little research, I "believe" this is a Rubies costume. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi James,

First of all, Welcome! Second of all, as a general rule... Don't buy armor from eBay. While each auction is specific, and there is always a chance that something on there is worth while. for the most part, the eBay stuff is junk, and something that you don't want.

We have three (I think) Shadow Troopers in the garrison now, and I am sure that they can chime in with where they purchased their armor from.

The detachment for that is the Special Operations Detachment (SpecOps).. Here is the site.

http://www.501stspecopsdet.net/

Head over there, register, introduce yourself and poke around. There's the resource for finding everything you need to complete this costume. And as always, feel free to post your questions here, and we will do the best we can to answer and point you in the right direction.

Welcome. There's lots of people here that can help with a costume build but don't it on eBay. If you have questions ask here and people will be glad to help.

Hi James, welcome to the boards.

Yeah, I'd say that's a pretty iffy buy. We have numerous stormtroopers and a few shadow troopers, so they should be able to point you in the right direction for a good kit.

Welcome James! Haley and I are closest to the South Bend/Mishawaka area. We'll have to hit dinner some time!

As far as the costume goes, check the Spec Ops Detachment boards for sure. Introduce yourself there as well, as you did here on our boards.

I have an ANH Stunt Stormie in white. Mine is the NE armor, and I love it. If you have the build for it, the guy who makes the NE armor is using the same bucks for Shadowtrooper armor too. I'd recommend that armor to anyone.

Welcome James stay away from eBay and anything rubies. Trust the people here they will not steer you wrong. I have a shadow stormtrooper from RS Propmakers they're in the UK they are very hard to get in touch with but there armor is really nice I love it! Next spring I'll be ordering a stormtrooper commander from them. Just google RS Propmakers there armor comes in different price packages. They're armor is pricy but they're considered one of the best, plus there customer service is fantastic, I've asked for extra stuff over the last few months and they haven't charged me a dime not even for shipping!! I got extra gloves with latex hand guards S strip ABS strips for a belt and new lower leg armor, all for free!! They will treat you very well but keep in mind your paying for it.
Good luck and keep us posted!
Ruck

Got in touch with RS. You're right, it is expensive, but it looks so nice. Still kinda torn.
