I wanted to give you all a little intro of myself. My name is Jerry, some just know me as Grimm inside the paintball community. There, I'm involved with the sport on a few levels. As a player, team captain (Outcast Brotherhood), Event Producer & vendor (Grimm City Sports). I play paintball through out IN, IL, & MI and produce big game/scenario events at Fort Knox Paintball in Winamac IN & Indy Battlegrounds in Greenwood IN (south of Indy). I am from the LaPorte IN. area and I work in the automotive industry (3rd shifter). Besides being into paintball, I'm a musician, I enjoy video games & movies, and a given, have a love of Star Wars! My user name is one I tend to use in most RPG games I play along with my xbox gamer tag. (Deadstone 66)

I've taken my son to a couple of the SWRD at the library & B&N in Valpo. My boy followed everyone around all day at that last one! I like what I see with the volunteering & how the kids just light up at the sight of the 501st/NDG. It's something I always wanted to get involved with. At this moment, I do not have any Armor/outfit/& or costume, but I would like to volunteer to help out & get to see what can all be involved before I make my 1st commitment to a character or roll. I've always been partial to the Snowtroopers, Biker Scouts & Royal Guard.

I'm planning on bringing my wife & son to Action Con in Valpo on Oct 31st. If that goes to plan, I'll be there at least half a day or the whole day. I'll know the closer it gets to the event. I know my boy would love to get more pic with everyone!

Hope to get to know you all in the near future!
Jerry

Hi Jerry,

Welcome! We'd be happy to have you act as "handler" for us some time to see the routine. Basically handlers assist with getting dressed, escort us through the space (it's amazing how difficult steps can be), keep an eye on us, and assist with water, costume malfunctions, interacting with people, etc. At troops (like Action Con) where we have a table out, we also have handlers covering that.

Another option would be for you to start with a simple soft-part costume like an Imperial Crewman. That can be done for a few hundred dollars, and gets you into the club.

I used to have a Snowy, and my primary costume right now is a Scout, so I completely agree that they're the best. Being able to bend over and sit down are undervalued skills until you lose them inside a Stormtrooper costume...

Thanks Topher for the welcome! I'm looking forward to get the chance to be a handler & able to work with & get to know you all.

As for a soft-part costume build, I was kind of thinking about an AT-ST driver. Looks like I'd have some fun with it!

One of our members has a great AT-ST; let's see if he has any tips or pointers for you to find the right vendors. :)

That would be awesome! Any one in the NDG a Count Dooku? I noticed my facial hair is now going grey & my actual hair on my head is just about the same color as the late great Christohper Lee. lol If I did a Dooku, it would be a seasonal thing. I buzz cut my head & keep only a goatee for the summer. I most definitely want to do a AT-ST 1st!

Hi Jerry. Welcome to the NDG. I will be at Action Con myself and working both the NDG booth and the Ghostbusters booth. Double duty day. Got questions, just ask and we can help.

We don't have a Dooku at the moment, so that would be awesome!

Note that it's not an issue to have duplicates; we have three Vaders at last count. They just coordinate and take turns. :)
